WordPress.org vs WordPress.com, briefly
WordPress (the software) is free and open source. WordPress.com is a hosted service run by Automattic that runs that software for you with restrictions that depend on the plan. Hostinger sells hosting on which you install the same free software with no restrictions. The software is identical; the deal is not.

The plugin wall
The single most important fact: on WordPress.com you cannot install plugins below the Business plan. No Rank Math, no Elementor, no WPForms, no WooCommerce, no Razorpay. Most business sites need at least three of those.
The Business plan removes the wall at INR 640/month for the first year and INR 800/month after, which over four years is roughly INR 36,500. That is about two and a half times Hostinger Unlimited, for one website instead of 50.
A correction
An earlier version of this page put WordPress.com Business at "INR 1,00,000+ for 4 years". That was wrong and far too high; the correct figure on current India pricing is around INR 36,500. WordPress.com is more expensive than Hostinger, but not by the margin we previously stated.
Speed from India
WordPress.com serves from its global network with no India location; typical first byte in India is 200-500 ms. Hostinger from Mumbai is 60-110 ms cached on our sites. Both are acceptable; Hostinger is faster.
Where WordPress.com fits
- A personal blog on the free or Personal plan with no need for plugins
- A publisher who wants Automattic to handle security and scaling and is happy paying for it
- Anyone who does not want to think about updates, ever
There is also a real argument for WordPress.com Business that price alone misses: Automattic handles security, scaling and updates properly, and that is worth something if nobody on your side will.
Verdict
Business website in India: WordPress on Hostinger, because you get the whole platform at around 40% of the cost with a local server and room for 50 sites. Hobby blog: WordPress.com free or Personal is fine. If you later want to move from WordPress.com to Hostinger, the export tool works and we handle the import as a standard migration.
